The Grand on State is a one of a kind Jazz & dining experience offering Santa Barbara an intimate live music venue, where world-class jazz, dinner, wine, and late-night elegance come together — and stay up late. It features a permanently hosted Steinway grand piano, a dedicated performance area, and a sound-treated listening space designed for exceptional live performances.

We've reserved a special table just for our members to enjoy the music of Lois Mahalia. The fee covers the price of admission. Food & drink are available at an additional cost. Please bring cash or use venmo as the venue will not do separate checks.

About the Artist

The sensationally versatile and vivacious vocalist Lois Mahalia has been performing in and around Santa Barbara and across the world in a variety of settings for decades. The Guyana-born singer-songwriter has done everything from fronting the R&B-soul-jazz family band Georgetown with her three brothers, to singing backup on many tours with Joe Walsh, to appearing in benefits alongside Kenny Loggins, Michael McDonald, and their colleagues, to collaborating with longtime Santa Barbara-based Costa Rican percussionist-composer Luis Muñoz on several recent albums, to name just a few accomplishments.

Dr. Spiegel Received his undergraduate degree at Duke University, then went to Univ Carolina at Chapel Hill for his MD. After a residency at George Washington University, he took an Associate Professor position in Rheumatology at UCLA School of Medicine. He obtained a Masters in Public Health, then moved to Santa Barbara in 1987 establishing a private practice, and taking position at Sansum and Cottage hospitals. He has 40 peer-reviewed publications and edited 2 books.

Open to beginners and more experienced players. We'll have a couple of tables reserved for us to enjoy a friendly and casual game of mah jong.

Join SBSC members, Mindy Fogg, Carrie Mullen, and your SBSC friends at the Linden Square public market in Carpinteria. We will meet at the new upstairs bar called "ARNIE'S ROOFTOP BAR", overlooking Linden Square.

Linden Square features some of the best local restaurants, retailers and experiences on the Central Coast. Come sip, shop, dine and relax in the outdoor courtyard with special events and live music. Located just seven blocks from the beach in Carpinteria, California.

Join us for an Indian treat!

This month we're going to try a different style of Indian food brought to you by the partners at Apna. Ninder Josan and Kuldeep Singh have taken over the old Bibi Ji space and transformed it into Bombay Station 734, but instead of featuring northern Indian food, here they are focusing on the south, which means such choices as dosas (a crispy tangy long crepe of rice and lentil flour with or without filling, served with sambar - a lentil-based vegetable stew - and a trio of homemade chutneys) uttapams, (delicious savory rice and lentil pancakes topped with fresh veggies),a couple of curries, and biryanis (a mixed rice dish traditionally made with rice, meat, seafood, or vegetables, and spices.)

The restaurant has kindly agreed to separate checks. Parking is available (90 minutes free) across the street at the Paseo Nuevo Mall, but as usual I strongly recommend carpooling.

Help us catch a murderer at the Luau!

Santa Barbara is a small town outside of Hollywood that is a celebrity vacation destination with beautiful beaches, excellent weather and wonderful resorts. A local magician is hosting a to-die-for backyard luau party. Everybody in Santa Barbara is talking about what an epic party this will be. Rumors have flown around the grapevine that the guest list might not contain only the crème de la crème of high society, but why should anybody question the host's motives? He has said that it will be a fun time in the sun with exciting party games, wonderful luau-inspired delicacies, and stimulating conversation. You have received your invitation, and it is time to pick out your most festive luau attire for the party. This is where the story begins...

So put on your best Hawaiian attire and join us for this festive killer event! We'll have lots of tropical food and drinks, music, and prizes.

"Firefly Aerospace – See You on the Darkside of the Moon” in 2027!

Dane Drefke is the Director of Launch Site Operations for Firefly

Aerospace at Space Launch Complex 2 on Vandenberg Space Force

Base. He leads an on-site team of 26 full-time employees tasked with

maintaining the launchpad in a state of operational readiness. During

launch campaigns that number will triple as personnel from Texas come to support the assembly, test and launch of the company’s Alpha launch vehicle. Missions from this launch site support US Space Force national security readiness, US Dept of Defense technology development, NASA earth sciences and exploration as well as commercial communications and technology missions.

Dane will give an overview of Firefly Aerospace. Who they are, what they do, how they’re growing, and the mission to the moon they completed in 2025. (Blue Ghost mission 1). Their current target is the Darkside of the Moon in 2027!

Dane has spent the last 30 years in the Aerospace industry supporting the Delta II, Delta IV and Atlas V missions from both coasts, and most recently was the ground crew commander for the human spaceflight Starliner program which flew on an Atlas V in 2024, carrying astronauts Barry “Butch” Wilmore and Suni Willaims to the International Space Station.

Culture & History Presents: Clue

You’ve played the board game, you’ve seen the cult classic film, now watch the action unfold live as Scarlet, Plum, White, Green, Peacock and Mustard race to find the murderer in Boddy Manor before he finds them. Clue is a madcap comedy that will keep you laughing and guessing until the final curtain.

Those who have been to Garvin Theatre performances know that this is a genre they do best - a wonderful escape and enjoyable entertainment.

Following the play, we will meet at a nearby restaurant for food, drinks and socializing.
